Interested in learning about the potential impact of a nuclear explosion on your hometown? This app provides you with the opportunity to assess the level of damage that a nuclear weapon could cause. By simulating a ground-level detonation, it visually displays the destruction and affected area.

The nuclear weapon effects calculator projects different types of damage onto a map, allowing you to easily view the affected area. You can also select any location worldwide by searching for a country or city, or simply by dragging a marker on the map. Additionally, you have the option to choose from a list of historically significant real nuclear bombs and simulate their effects.

By dynamically changing the location of the detonation's center, you can explore how different areas would be impacted.

A nuclear detonation releases various forms of energy such as explosive blast, direct nuclear radiation, and thermal radiation. This app represents the affected area for each type of energy on the map.

In reality, the extent of damage caused by nuclear explosions can vary significantly due to numerous factors. These factors include the weapon's yield (measured in kilotons or megatons), the type of nuclear fuel utilized, the device's design, whether it is detonated in the air or on the surface, as well as geographical and weather conditions surrounding the target. This app does not make assumptions regarding these factors, but it does illustrate the potential scale of destruction that can be caused by nuclear weapons.
